LAPD Clarifies That It Cannot Confirm Tom Petty’s Death

CBS News retracted an earlier report that legendary rock singer Tom Petty, 66, had passed away this afternoon after suffering a full cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu. The news outlet linked to a statement from the LAPD, which had initially given information on the singer’s passing. Later, the LAPD clarified on Twitter that they had no knowledge of the singer’s death.

As of now, CBS and other news outlets are reporting that Petty is still alive on life support in the hospital, citing TMZ. Petty had just finished a tour that ended last week at the Hollywood Bowl.(vogue)
